Q1:  What does my investment management fee cover?

 As a fee-based advisory firm, we are paid a fee based on a percentage of assets we manage for our clients.

 This fee  covers financial planning, investment advisory and management, risk management and a dedicated

 account manager.  

Q2:  What is our minimum household account size?

Minimum household account size is $300,000.  Investors with less than the minimum shall be considered on a case-to-case basis if there is a reasonable expectation the threshold will be reached in the foreseeable future.

Q3.  Where is my account held?

 Your account is held ITF (in trust for) your name at National Bank Independent Network (NBIN). 

 We have diligently chosen to work with our dealer, Aligned Capital Partners Inc. (ACPI), who in turn has

 chosen National Bank Independent Network  (NBIN) as their custodian.

 ACPI's role is to provide the Advisor with background support, supervise client accounts, maintain proper

 business records and ensure correct procedures are being followed as required by our industry regulators.  

 NBIN, as the custodian and carrying broker, is responsible for back office functions such as execution,

 clearing and settlement of trades. They also hold our clients’ funds.

 The purpose of the dealer and custodian relationship is to separate the investor’s assets from the Advisor

 for safekeeping. 

Q4: Who is the Investment Dealer for my portfolio?

 Aligned Capital Partners Inc. (ACPI) is the Investment Dealer. ACPI is an independent financial advisory firm

 founded in 1987 and is a member of CIPF (Canadian Investor Protection Fund) and IIROC (Investment

 Industry  Regulatory Organization of Canada). 

 

Q5: Who is the Carrying Broker for my portfolio?

 National Bank Independent Network (NBIN) is the carrying broker for your portfolio.

Q6: How do I login into my ACPI account?

 Clients can sign up at MyPortfolio+ website, https://myportfolioplus.ca/alignedcapital to view their accounts, statements and tax slips online.  

  • To sign up, you will need the first 6 digits of your ACPI account number and Social Insurance Number (SIN). You will be given a username and temporary password. You can change your password after you have logged into your account.

Q7.  How do I switch from paper to e-Statement?

     1.  Log in to your account at MyPortfolio+ website, and click the head-and-shoulders icon at the top right of the page.

     2.  Click the “Documents” tab.

     3.  Choose “All Electronic”.

     4.  Tick off Email notification.

     5.  Select/Enter your email address.  Whenever you have a statement, NBIN will send you an email to let you know it is ready for viewing and download.

     6.  Click "Save".

     7.  Add noreply@notification.myportfolioplus.ca to your email contact list to prevent notifications from going to your junk folder.

Q8. How do I get my "My Portfolio" username and password if I forget what they are? 

 You can click on "Forgot your password?" and enter your personal details.

 If this doesn't work, you can call NBIN at 1-855-844-0172 to get your user ID or to reset your password.

  • Have available your account number to identify yourself.

Q9:   How do I contribute to my ACPI account online? 

 You can contribute to your RRSP, TFSA and Non-Registered Cash Accounts using online banking. 

 For Spousal RRSP, the contribution will automatically be attributed to the spouse. 

 For RESP contributions, online payment is unavailable. Please get in touch with us.

 Just follow these simple steps after you have logged on to your online bank.

     1.  Click on add a payee (similar to paying a bill online).

     2.  Search and add NBIN or National Bank Independent Network **

     3.  Add your 7 digit account number from your Aligned Capital Partners statement ***

     4.  Send yourself a contribution by making a payment from your bank account to your NBIN account.

     5.  If you have multiple accounts, repeat steps 1 to 4.

     6.  Let us know the amount, the account and when you made the contribution so we can watch for it on our end.

** NBIN is a recent name-change from NBCN.  If you don't see NBIN in your bank's payee list, try searching NBCN or National Bank Correspondent Network.  If it still doesn't come up, your bank may not have NBIN as a payee.  Try using another bank account, or contact us for another option.

Q10:  When will I receive my tax slips?

 Download the 2019 Tax Slips Mailing Schedule.  For clients who opted for paper statements, please refer to "Mailing target date".  For clients who opted for electronic statements, please refer to "Online documents service target date".

Q11:  How do I download my statements and tax slips from My Portfolio website?

     1.  When you are logged in to My Portfolio, click the 'Documents' tab.

     2.  Select which document you would like to view (Trade Confirmations, Portfolio Statements, Tax Slips or Fund Facts) .

     3.  Choose to view a specific account or all accounts from the pull-down menu.

     4.  Choose the time period you'd like to view by clicking the (+) sign next to 'Filters'.

     5.  Click the document you would like to download.

Q12:  How can I find out my RRSP and TFSA contribution room?

  1.   Go to CRA's website

  2.   If your bank is a sign-in partner, you can log in using Option 1.  Otherwise, you have to register and obtain a username and password.

  3.   Once you are logged in, scroll down the page.  There should be a section where you can see your RRSP and TFSA information.

  4.  Please note the "as of" date.  The amounts given are usually the available room at the beginning of the year.
